Music is important in Parry Sound. For the past 18 years, music has been a major part of the Georgian Bay summer. This season will again bring together musicians and music lovers from all over the globe.
Two significant events involving two of the most established ensembles in the world frame our season. Menahem Pressler brings his new Beaux Arts Trio for its Canadian debut and the Allegri String Quartet performs its last concerts with cellist Bruno Schrecker before his retirement.
Experience the incredible variety offered by composers of our century. The music will range from the joyous tunes of George Gershwin, celebrating his 100th anniversary, to Messaien's monumental Quartet for the End of Time.
Festival of the Sound is also the final destination of a world tour of premieres. An idea suggested by CBC's Keith Horner grew and will result in premieres of works by Canada's Jacques Hétu, Holland's Theo Loevendie and Japan's Minako Tokuyama in Asia, Europe and North America.
You will be able to experience something new almost every day of the Festival.
Some works stand as monumentsto a composer. Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Mozart's Requiem, Schubert's Octet and almost all the music of Beethoven have come to represent humanity's highest values. This season we present these masterworks and many others in the chamber music concerts that form the core of our Festival.
